The RS 2 modular robot system
Everybody talks about automation, but it's much more than just a trendy word. We ourselves have developed from a machine manufacturer to a process provider because we believe that the decisive criterion for automated efficiency is the integration of the entire environment and periphery. Thus, what began with economical pallet changing and intelligent handling systems now culminates in highly advanced robot solutions. We have long been able to convert a machine into a flexible manufacturing cell.
The RS 2 modular robot system for the
fully automatic loading and unloading of
pallets and workpieces
Putting a robot in front of a machine is neither costly nor technically very difficult. However, if working processes need to be carried out between machine and robot or if a number of machines need to be connected to one robot, a certain level of know-how is necessary. The Hermle subsidiary, Hermle-Leibinger Systemtechnik GmbH has for over 9 years been active in the field of machining centre automation and can look back proudly over numerous end-customer production installations.
Their latest achievement is the RS 2 robot system which as standard links a 5-axis machining centre to one robot and offers aheavy load rack for workpiece storage. The robot system has been developed as a platform and can be extended to suit customers' individual specifications. It is placed "hook-ready" in front of the machining centre; the access to the machining centre is secured or permitted via an ingenious door system. In this way, both the RS 2 robot system and also the machining centre can be operated manually without interrupting the automatic operation of the other unit (machining centre). A diverse range of heavy load racks can be fitted to the system, to take workpieces or pallets in a wide range of sizes. Automatic exchangeable grippers / double grippers enable the robot to load and unload various blanks / workpieces and pallets .
The robot system is designed to operate not just one but up to three integrated machines while still guaranteeing modularity in the area of storage.
Designed as a combined system, pallets of diverse sizes and workpieces can be loaded and unloaded via the active gripper system. This ensures maximum flexibility in the piece spectrum (long spindle runtimes) and optimum utilization in three-shift operation even over weekends (manufacture with little or no operator intervention).
