Automation components made by HLS
In the past year, HLS focussed not only on continuous improvement of the RS 60, RS 2 and RS 3 robot systems, but also on complete customer-specific solutions. These included not only feeding of material, part handling, intelligent and part storage, but also monitoring functions and/or subsequent operations such as washing, deburring etc. Part clamping (planning and fabrication of fixtures) as well as machining technology for optimal chip removal are further important aspects. In this area, HLS draws on the know-how of Hermle's application department, thus closing the circle for our customers.
Handing systems and linear storage systems for a large number of pallets or workpieces represent additional focal points. In addition, special solutions such as the automatic arbour holder for machining long, thin workpieces that require support at the face end are developed. This arbour holder makes it possible to machine workpieces such as turbine blades, medical technology workpieces, tools and/or tool holders within highly accurate manufacturing tolerances.
The modular RS 3 robot system
After Hermle AG introduced the RS 2 modular robot system in 2007, RS 3 robot system with a payload of up to 500 kg was presented punctually at the in-house exhibition in 2008.The standard RS 3 robot system links a 5-axis machining centre to one robot and a heavy load rack for workpiece storage. The robot system has been developed as a platform and can be extended to suit customers' individual specifications. It is placed "hook-ready" in front of the machining centre; the access to the machining centre is secured or permitted via an ingenious door system. In this way, both the RS 3 robot system and also the machining centre can be operated manually without interrupting the automatic operation of the other unit (machining centre). A diverse range of heavy load racks can be fitted to the system, to take workpieces or pallets in a wide range of sizes. Automatic exchangeable grippers / double grippers enable the robot to load and unload various blanks / workpieces and pallets.
The robot system has been designed such that it can serve not only one, but rather up to three integrated machines, while still guaranteeing modularity in the area of storage.
Designed as a combined system, pallets of diverse sizes and workpieces can be loaded and unloaded via the active gripper system in one cell. This ensures maximum flexibility in the piece spectrum (long spindle runtimes) and optimum utilisation in three-shift operation even over weekends (manufacture with little or no operator intervention).
