HERMLE enjoyed successful start to 2026. Orders received increased by 15% in the first quarter Group turnover rose by 14%.
Operating result improved compared with previous year
Maschinenfabrik Berthold HERMLE AG has made a good start to the current year. The southern German machine tool and automation specialist increased the number of orders received across the Group in the first quarter of 2026 by 14.9% to €m 138.2 compared with the same period in the previous year (previous year: €m 120.3). The positive development was supported, among other things, by continued strong demand in the USA and the aerospace industry, as well as by several major projects. With orders up by 18.0% to €m 104.7 (previous year: €m 88.7), the upward trend continued overseas. But demand in Germany also gathered pace: New domestic orders increased by 6.0% to €m 33.5 (previous year: €m 31.6). The order backlog across the Group as at 31 March 2026 totalled €m 118.0 compared with €m 121.8 on the same date in 2025 and €m 90.6 at the end of 2025.
HERMLE increased its Group turnover by 14.1% to €m 110.9 in the first quarter of 2026 (previous year: €m 97.2). Domestic turnover rose by 28.9% to €m 35.2 (previous year: €m 27.3) and non-domestic turnover by 8.3% to €m 75.7 (previous year: €m 69.9). This represented an export quota of 68.3% (previous year: 71.9%). The operating result also rose in the first quarter of 2026 compared with the same period in the previous year. Thanks to the higher turnover and the resulting improvement in capacity utilisation, the impact of increased staff costs and currency effects was more than compensated for.
At the end of March 2026, HERMLE had 1,631 employees across the Group (31.03.2025: 1,605; 31.12.2025: 1,639). The increase compared with the same date in the previous year was mainly due to recruiting apprentices and dual-study students who had successfully completed their training and filling the resulting vacancies. Furthermore, there were targeted new hires, including in international services.
The financial and asset position of the HERMLE Group remained solid: On 31 March 2026, the company had an equity ratio of around 70%. The extensive, multi-year investment programme, designed to secure the future of the locations, was therefore able to proceed as planned. During the period under review, the focus was on the construction of the new application centre, complete with adjoining staff canteen, at the company headquarters in Gosheim, which is expected to open in 2027.
HERMLE also continued its intensive R&D activities. At this year's Open House at the end of April, which attracted considerable interest from an abundance of national and international visitors, the company showcased state-of-the-art machining centres and innovative automation concepts, as well as digital tools that enable efficient and future-proof manufacturing processes. Thanks to its extensive range of automation and robot systems, HERMLE demonstrated how it meets a diverse range of customer requirements, from single-part production to large production runs, under one roof.
